Trinity College pulls away late to beat Atlantis University, 60-50
Atlantis University lost to Trinity College of Florida, 60-50, on January 30 in Miami, bringing their record to 3-6. Although Amaris Ramos had a strong game and the team made a late fourth-quarter push, the Atlanteans couldn't recover from early scoring droughts and missed free throws in the 10-point loss.

Atlantis University made 31.3 percent of its shots from the field (21-of-67) and just 15.4 percent from three-point range (4-of-26). The biggest difference was at the free-throw line, where Atlantis made only 4 of 16 attempts (25.0 percent). Trinity took advantage, hitting 14 of 17 free throws (82.4 percent), which made the difference in a close game.
Amaris Ramos led Atlantis University with 21 points on 9-of-17 shooting and grabbed three rebounds in 29 minutes. She scored more than 40 percent of the team's points and was a steady presence on offense all game. Maria Jose Quiroga added nine points, four assists, and five steals, making an impact on both offense and defense, though she had six turnovers. Naia Beltran finished with seven points and seven rebounds, and Rosmery Franco had five points, seven rebounds, and a team-high seven assists.
Trinity started strong, leading 17-11 after the first quarter and outscoring Atlantis 16-10 in the second to take a 33-21 lead at halftime. Atlantis scored only 21 points in the first half, making 8 of 32 shots. The team struggled with offense early, especially from three-point range, hitting just 1 of 11 in the first two quarters.
The third quarter was defensive, with Trinity outscoring Atlantis 12-10 to keep a 45-31 lead going into the fourth. Ramos kept attacking the basket and creating chances, but Atlantis couldn't build lasting momentum. Turnovers also hurt, as Atlantis had 20 compared to Trinity's 18.
Atlantis played its best in the fourth quarter, outscoring Trinity 19-15. The team stepped up on defense and finished with 14 steals. Quiroga was active in the passing lanes, and Franco made plays to help close the gap, but the early deficit was too much to overcome.
Atlantis had a small 35-33 rebounding edge, including 10 offensive boards that gave them extra chances. But missed free throws and poor outside shooting kept them from turning those into big scoring runs. Off the bench, Rosa Bello and Delores Charlton combined for four points and three rebounds, and the reserves scored six points in total.
On defense, Atlantis held Trinity to 29.9 percent shooting from the field and 22.2 percent from three-point range, which is usually good enough to win. But Trinity's strong free-throw shooting and balanced scoring helped them stay in control.
This loss came down to execution. Atlantis took a similar number of shots and battled well for rebounds, but missed chances at key times, especially at the free-throw line, made the difference. As conference play continues, the team will need to focus on making free throws and reducing turnovers. Atlantis University will try to regroup after the 60-50 loss and build on its strong fourth quarter as it gets ready for the NSAC Championship this weekend.
