Atlantis University’s women’s basketball team fell 63–57 to Trinity College of Florida
Atlantis University's women's basketball team delivered a strong effort in Tampa but fell 63–57 to Trinity College of Florida on November 7. Despite a slow start, the Atlanteans found their rhythm in the second half, showcasing composure and teamwork behind standout performances from Rosmery Franco and Maria Jose Quiroga
Atlantis opened the game with solid defensive rotations but struggled to connect offensively, trailing 17–14 after the first quarter. The second quarter proved difficult, as Trinity's pressure defense forced turnovers that shifted momentum, allowing the home side to take a 38–21 halftime lead. The Atlanteans responded with resilience in the third period, outscoring Trinity 24–9 thanks to a renewed focus on inside scoring and ball movement.
Franco, who led all scorers with 18 points, ignited the run with decisive drives and precision from the free-throw line. Quiroga complemented her effort with 14 points and four assists, balancing the offense and pushing the pace in transition.
Naire Lucas anchored the post with eight points, nine rebounds, and a block, providing a steady presence in the paint. Defensively, the Atlanteans forced six steals and limited Trinity's top scorer to just 10 points in the third quarter. Amaris Ramos added 11 points and six rebounds, contributing energy on both ends. Despite the late surge, the deficit proved too deep to erase, as turnovers and missed free throws in the closing minutes allowed Trinity to maintain control.
Atlantis shot 42 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle 38–36, showing notable improvement from their previous outing. The second-half push reflected the team's growing chemistry and competitive poise, key indicators of progress early in the season. Head Coach Silva's rotation continues to take shape, with balanced minutes and developing bench support.
The Atlanteans' 24-point third quarter highlighted their potential when rhythm and spacing align. Franco's leadership and consistency on offense continue to set the tone, while Quiroga's versatility in the backcourt remains central to Atlantis's playmaking. Despite the loss, the group's effort reinforced a sense of cohesion and identity, an important step toward building for the new season. Atlantis University will look to carry the momentum from its second-half performance into the next matchup. The loss underscored both the challenges of early-season adjustments and the promise of a team learning to compete at a higher level with unity and resolve.
