Atlantis University Advances with 74–58 Victory Over South Carolina Central
Atlantis University improved to 16–9 overall and 6–3 in conference play with a 74–58 victory over South Carolina Central on February 20 at the Apprentice Athletic Center. A decisive second-half performance allowed the Atlanteans to pull away and secure the 16-point win.
Atlantis carried a narrow 31–29 lead into halftime before gaining separation after the break, outscoring South Carolina Central 43–29 in the final 20 minutes. The Atlanteans finished the game shooting 39.3 percent from the field (24-of-61) and were particularly effective from three-point range, connecting on 9-of-20 attempts (45.0 percent).
Artem Sorokin led Atlantis with 21 points on 7-of-14 shooting, including five three-pointers, while playing all 40 minutes. He also added nine rebounds. Ornie Brooks contributed 15 points and five assists, converting 8-of-10 attempts from the free-throw line. Nikko Landon added 13 points and eight rebounds, while Folayemi Salako recorded a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 13 rebounds, including four offensive boards. Atlantis controlled the rebounding battle, finishing with a 49–36 advantage and collecting 14 offensive rebounds that produced second-chance opportunities. The Atlanteans also shared the ball effectively, recording 16 assists on 24 made field goals.
Defensively, Atlantis limited South Carolina Central to 36.2 percent shooting and held the opposition to 14.3 percent from three-point range (5-of-35). South Carolina Central struggled at the free-throw line, shooting 3-of-11 (27.3 percent), while Atlantis converted 17-of-23 attempts (73.9 percent). With balanced scoring, strong rebounding, and improved second-half execution, Atlantis secured the quarterfinal victory and advanced with momentum.
