2025-26 AU Student-Athletes Welcome Back Event
Atlantis University officially set the tone for the 2025-26 athletic year on Friday, September 5, when student-athletes from across all sports gathered at the REC Center for the annual Welcome Back Event.
Organized with the intent of fostering unity and celebrating achievement, the event was hosted by Baseball Coach Antonio Aponte, whose energy kept the afternoon moving with excitement. The atmosphere was vibrant, filled with laughter, competition, and plenty of school pride as student-athletes reconnected after the summer break. With food, music, and well-deserved recognition of last season’s standout performers, the event reminded everyone of the shared values that drive AU Athletics: teamwork, commitment, and resilience.
A highlight of the day came when Professor Thompson took the stage as the event’s keynote motivational speaker. His words resonated with the athletes, urging them to balance their academic responsibilities with the discipline required to excel in sports. With stories that blended humor and hard-earned wisdom, he challenged students to seize opportunities, persevere through challenges, and never lose sight of the bigger picture. Many in attendance described his address as both inspiring and grounding, a perfect message to begin a new season filled with fresh goals and renewed determination. For Atlantis University, his speech was not just about athletics but about character-building and leadership, qualities that transcend the field or court.
Athletic Director Francisco Hernandez also took the microphone to extend a warm welcome to all the teams, coaches, and staff present. His remarks emphasized the growing reputation of AU Athletics, both regionally and nationally, and he praised the dedication of student-athletes who represent the university with pride. Hernandez spoke directly to the heart of AU’s mission: the pursuit of excellence in academics and athletics working hand in hand. By acknowledging last season’s accomplishments and looking ahead with optimism, he reminded students that their legacy is still being written, and that each practice, class, and game contributes to the collective story of Atlantis University.
Recognition of achievement was central to the event, as awards were presented to the top student-athletes from the 2024-25 season. Honorees were celebrated not only for their athletic performance but also for their academic achievements, underscoring AU’s holistic approach to student success. These awards highlighted the sacrifices and discipline that student-athletes demonstrate year-round, juggling rigorous schedules while excelling in both arenas. The applause that filled the REC Center during each recognition reflected the community’s pride in its athletes. Beyond trophies and accolades, these moments also served as a reminder of the bonds that unite the AU athletic family and the importance of celebrating each other’s wins.
To balance the formalities with fun, competitive activities were organized throughout the day, giving athletes the chance to engage in lighthearted contests outside their usual sports. A DJ provided an upbeat soundtrack that kept spirits high, while Latin Hot Dog, a local Miami favorite, served meals that quickly became a talking point among the crowd.
From students laughing during friendly competitions to teammates sharing hot dogs on the sidelines, the event was more than a ceremony; it was a celebration of community. The day brought together student-athletes from baseball, soccer, volleyball, football, and other programs in a way that strengthened the ties across teams and emphasized the unique culture of Atlantis University Athletics.
